Katherine Elaine Graves “Kathie”, age 78

Katherine Elaine Graves “Kathie,” age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Conway, Arkansas, on January 18, 2023. She was born on January 7, 1945, in Santa Barbara, California, but grew up in Akron, Colorado.

Kathie is preceded in death by her parents, David and Olga Bean.

She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Kathie was known and loved by many that called her “Granny K.” Kathie was a very wise, talented, and strong independent woman. She was a licensed beautician for over thirty years. She had a passion for baking, sewing, working word puzzles, and shopping, especially for shoes and jewelry. She loved cats. Her heart was big, and she lived life to the fullest.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children Sonja Casteel, Steven Nickell and Diana Pollard who she considered her second daughter; granddaughter Chandra Casteel; great-grandchildren Gabe, Eli, and Lily Casteel-Lopez; brother David Bean; sisters Vicki Hillyer and Rickie Prather; and several nieces and nephews.

Kathie loved to laugh and not sweat the small stuff. Please celebrate her life with great memories that make you smile because she didn’t want anyone to be sad for her.

    Kathie was such a caring person…..had the pleasure of seeing her again after 30 or more years when she came back to Akron, Colorado to visit….there were about 10 of us girls who went to school with her…..We all got together and ate breakfast …..what a great visit we had all remembering our youthful days

    She was one of the sweetest people who I knew. Her laugh made me smile. We had been planning on getting together again as soon as she felt better. She was a joy. I’m so sorry for all of your loss.
