Avis Lee Twitty, 86, of Jacksonville, Arkansas passed away on Sunday March 5, 2023. She was born August 23, 1936 in Detroit, Alabama to the late Paul Hollis and Willie Odell Ferguson Watkins.
Avis was preceded in death by her spouse of 38 years Bobby C. Twitty; a twin brother Travis Dee Watkins; her sister Mary Elizabeth Watkins Creamer and her parents.
Avis worked on The Little Rock Airforce Base at the NCO Club as a secretary. She worked as a customer service rep for AP&L and worked as a secretary for Biff’s Coffee Roasting Company. She truly loved helping others. Avis served on the Jacksonville City Council as Alderman Ward 5 for 23 years. She was of the Baptist Faith and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
Avis loved the holidays, especially decorating and wrapping gifts for Christmas with fancy paper and bows. She loved giving gifts and spending time with her family. Sunday family dinners were so important to her. Any time spent with her children and grandchildren meant the world to her.
She was known to spend time at the Casino with her sister Mary and meeting up with her grandson Brian. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and meeting up with her friends for coffee. She was always up for a trip with family no matter where it was. A daily Wendy’s frosty was her guilty pleasure. She went so often that there were times they did not charge her.
Avis Twitty is survived by her sons Jeff and Paul Twitty; two daughter-in-laws Mary and Edie Twitty; her grandchildren Brian, Travis, Abby and Hannah Twitty; her sister Wilma Sue (James) Wiginton and a host of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2023 at 1:00 P.M at Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Funeral Services to follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Cliff Hutchins presiding. Internment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
