James H. Torbett, 81, of Little Rock, died at UAMS on February 23, 2023. He is predeceased by his parents, Irene Taylor Torbett and Chester Cornell Torbett and is survived by his sister, Kay Torbett of Little Rock.
James was born on July 27, 1941 in Morrilton, AR and graduated from Morrilton High School. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, with a degree in English and received his master’s degree from the University of San Francisco. After a stint in the newspaper business, he taught English in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to San Francisco where he managed telecommunications networks for a large maritime company. Later in life, he returned to Little Rock to be near his sister. James was a devoted brother, a voracious reader who never lost his intellectual curiosity and could engage in meaningful conversation on most any subject. He was most appreciative of the care he receives from the medical professionals at UAMS and recently from his caregiver, Kiwauna Nowden.
James was a faithful member of Little Rock Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where his ashes will be interred following a celebration of life in the Cathedral at 2PM on Thursday, March 9.
