Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Virginia Carolyn “Carol” Wortham, age 71

Virginia Carolyn “Carol” Wortham, 71, of North Little Rock, AR, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. Carol was born in Bassett, AR on May 17, 1951. She was predeceased by her parents, Erma Sanders “Shine” Manor and Mildred Irene Walker Manor, brothers Burl, Alvin, and Eugene Lloyd, and the love of her life, Danny Wortham, to whom she was wed for 51 years. Carol is survived by her daughter, Nicole Wortham Besancon, son, Eric Wortham, grandsons, Hunter and Ethan Besancon (the lights of her life!), sister, Betty Cunningham and brother, Billy Lloyd. She is lovingly remembered by many family members and friends.

As the baby of the family with 5 older siblings, Carol was adored by all. She cherished her memories growing up in Bassett where she hung out with her Shawnee Girls and friends, played high school basketball, and sang at school and church. Her beautiful voice was appreciated by all at the Bassett Presbyterian Church, where she was baptized in her Christian faith.

After graduating from Shawnee High School in Joiner, AR in 1969 she met Danny at American Greetings in Osceola, AR and married March 30, 1970. While raising her family, she worked for over 30 years as a Compliance Manager at Joyce Bradley Babin Chapter 13 Standing Trustee. She created a home filled with love and laughter- and excellent food! Carol was a remarkable cook and enjoyed collecting cookbooks and preparing meals for her family and friends. Holiday baking and gift-giving was her specialty. She loved to dance and loved all kinds of music, especially Old-Fashioned Hymns and Gospel Songs.

She will be missed for her warm smile, witty sense of humor, infectious laughter that could light up a dark room, and generous spirit.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 2:00pm at A Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville, Arkansas.

Flowers welcome or in lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Carolyn was the sweetest of ladies. In high school, I had the privilege of singing with her. I can still hear her beautiful soprano voice. Now, she will sing with a celestial choir. May she rest in the arms of our Lord!

My sweet dear dear friend. In my heart I know she is not suffering and is now walking with both of her beautiful legs and has no pain. But my selfish self will miss her and her gentle kindness. Rest I. Peace pretty lady til we meet again at the big lake in the sky.

Carol was such a kind and gentle soul. She had a great capacity for love, which she abundantly shared with her family and friends. I was blessed to be her friend and I will miss her sweet smile and her laughter. I am grateful that her pain and suffering are gone and that one day I will see her again.

Nicole, you had a beautiful loving mother. She would do anything for her children. I loved working with her for many years. She was a joy to be around. I’ll never forget our San Antonia trip with you and Robin. We had so much fun. She will be forever in my heart.
