Steve Edward Mack, Jr. passed away at his home in Little Rock, AR on Saturday, May 27, 2023, after battling cancer since December of 2021. Steve was born in Stuttgart, AR to Steve E. Mack, Sr. and Kathy Mack on July 30, 1966. He lived in Dewitt until he went into the Navy when was 19 years old. Stevie chose to make Jesus the Lord of his life as a teenager attending Eastside Baptist Church.
Steve leaves behind so many friends and family that will miss him greatly. His wife of 32 years, Susan Peebles Mack and His sons Brendan, Jonah and Andrew Mack and daughter-in-law Savannah. His grandson, Garak (5) will miss his G-Paw, too. Stevie will be missed by his sister, Pamela Mack Floyd and her husband Robert Floyd, as well as his cousin Michael Nall and wife Kary. Many friends and family including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins will miss Stevie’s laughs and stories and his general love of just talking to people.
Shortly after his graduation from DeWitt High School in 1984, Steve joined the Navy. Although his friends, Rick Watkins and Glen Pool would be sad to see him go, he’d soon be off on his journeys around Norfolk, VA and sailing in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Shenandoah for 5 years. It was there in the Navy that he met his 2 lifelong friends Jim Adams and John Ford Davis. The Navy taught Steve a valuable skill that would later serve him well in the private sector, providing employment for his entire adult life.
Steve was employed as a Health Physicist by the AR Department of Health, Division of Radiation Control for 30 years. Steve loved to share stories of all the quirky things he’d seen and been a part of during his time in the Health Department.
Stevie developed a love for drag racing early in life after his dad bought a 1956 Chevy. He grew up around that car and Steve, Sr. finally let Stevie drive it down the track when he was 36 years old! Allan Holloway and the Holloway family have been Stevie’s track family since long before he started driving. Steve’s love of Jesus and racing intertwined in February of 2011 when he became a Chaplain for Racers For Christ. He loved ministering to racers at his home track of Prescott Raceway and at the sand drags at Atoka Motorsports Park in Atoka, OK.
The family asks that memorials be made to Racers For Christ in Memory of Steve Mack, Jr. 1303 South Longmore, Suite 7, Mesa, AZ 85202.
A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel of A Natural State Funeral Service on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
