Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Beverly Jean Lockett, age 74

Beverly Jean Lockett, 74, of Shreveport, Louisiana entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Beverly was born on January 5, 1949 in Iola, Kansas. When she was just a child, her family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon and she spent many days of her childhood on the beach with her sister and best friend, Judy and their dog Zeke. In 1954, their little brother Clarence Herman Jr (Sonny) was born and Bev and Judy had their very own living doll to love and adore. The family later moved to Perryville, Arkansas in 1962 where Bev ran track and graduated with the class of 1967 from Perryville High School.

Beverly’s son Butch was born in 1968 and that sweet little red-headed boy stole her heart and gave her the most cherished title of Mom.

Beverly worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital for 32 years in a career that spanned several states. She started out as a ward clerk in mental health at Fort Roots in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She later worked in supply and then transferred to Kansas City, Missouri for supervisor training before moving to Shreveport, Louisiana to the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center as Chief of Purchasing and Contracting.  While working full-time, she attended and graduated from Louisiana Tech University cum laude in 1995 with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies. She later retired from the VA as Chief of Acquisition, Material Management and Supply.

On September 20, 1986, Beverly married the love of her life, James (Jim) Lockett. Jim devoted his entire life to Beverly and selflessly took care of her every need after her stroke in 2011.

Beverly was kind, beautiful and intelligent and never met a stranger. In fact, she was known for stopping to give money to the homeless and always thought of others before herself. She loved animals, dancing, shopping, travelling and she and her husband loved antique cars and were members in the Arklatex Volkswagen club.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Cora Bull (Gibson), father Clyde Aggers, step-father Clarence Herman Bull Sr. and son James “Butch” Boyette.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, James Lockett, daughter Ginger (Carl) Talley; son Floyd Lockett; sisters: Judy (Mark) Brown, Brandy (Matt) Robinson, Cris Fletcher, and Sue (Dale) Jackson; brothers: Sonny (Sherri) Bull, Leslie Bennett, David Aggers, Hal (Tina) Aggers and John Turner; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of A Natural State Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Beverly’s name to the American Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas, 72076. 501-982-3400. Online guestbook available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com

Jimmy, I didn’t know Beverly, but she had to be a very special lady, and I know the gentle, loving care you provided her over these past few years had to have made her days as good as they could be under the circumstances. Your love for her was apparent. May she rest in peace and may you also find peace in knowing she no longer suffers. ❤️.
