To Mel, Charlie and the Garvin Family….a remembrance….I visited with your Mother some years back when she had just given up tutoring children in reading at Pine Wood Elementary. She told me how she shared with the students how she had traveled the world without ever leaving Jacksonville. All by way of reading and the books available. Such a life’s testimony. I’ve convinced there are children with a love of reading because of her influence. We could all take a lesson from “Mama Nell”

Rest well and healed in God’s arms, Mrs. Iva Nell Garvin.

To Mel, Charlie and the entire Garvin Family…I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother…she was such an incredible woman…

…a remembrance…some years ago, I had an occasion to visit with her…we talked about her family, but we also talked about her volunteer work at Pine Valley Elementary, tutoring children in reading. She shared with me how she told students she had been all around the world without ever leaving Jacksonville, all by way of books. I have to wonder how many lives she touched by helping children be better readers and how that gained knowledge changed lives.

My hope and prayers for each of you is that the sweet memories far outweigh the sense of loss. And that each of will think of her anytime you pick up a book.

I have been her neighbor for about 20 years. She was my girlfriend and she would tell me I was her boyfriend. I’m really going to miss our visits. She knew lots of history about the property I own that she grew up on. Every time she ask me to do something for her she would always make me banana nut bread. I really loved her and will really miss her.

I absolutely loved this lady. She spoke her mind when needed but did it with such class. I worked for the city in the days of Al Garvin, Ophelia Blasingame and Floy Avants. Remarkable people for sure. Rest In Peace Ms. Nell tell everyone hi!
Prayers for healing and strength for the family 🙏🏻🙏🏻
