Lonnie Dale Nelson, 76, of Sherwood, Arkansas, passed away June 26, 2023. He was born in Moark, Arkansas, to the late Sam and Dorothy Nelson.
He is preceded by his parents; brothers Ralph Nelson, Howard Nelson, Hollis Dockins, Frances Nelson, and Ronnie Nelson; his sisters Madaline Brashears, Mary James, Dorothy Dockins, and Tressie Moore. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lynne Nelson; children Sam Nelson and Melanie May (Scout Kimes); 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister Esther Taylor, niece Bonita Hartwig (Larry) who was more of a sister than a niece, many other nieces and nephews, along with a host of extended family and friends.
Lonnie retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2007 after giving them 37 years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed reloading his own ammunition. He was a devout Christian and a member of the United Methodist Church.
His smile and sense of humor will be sorely missed. He was always coming up with some “Nelsonism” that would make people laugh. He loved life, God, and most of all he loved his family. His passing leaves a void in our hearts that can never be filled.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Emergency Room and 2nd Floor ICU staff at CHI St Vincent Infirmary North in Sherwood for their care and loving support during Lonnie’s last few days.

A private remembrance service will be held by the family.
