Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Byron Vance Reeves, age 90

Byron Vance Reeves, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 with his family at his side.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Reeves & Tressa Reeves Lemich.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Audrey Harrison Reeves; daughters, Kelli Peters (David), Janine Tiner (Jack), and Marla Quimby (Bob); grandchildren, Tressa Tiner, Bailey Maxson, and Audrey Maxson; and sister, Koleda Swaithes (Gene).

Born on September 28, 1932 and raised in Camden, Byron’s family later moved to Mobile, AL and Little Rock.  He graduated from Little Rock High School in 1950 and from Ouachita College in 1955, playing basketball for both.  He served in the Army as a second lieutenant at Fort Benning, GA and in Puerto Rico.

Byron and Audrey lived in Little Rock and Baton Rouge, finally making their home in North Little Rock, where he had a successful career as an insurance salesman, earning his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation and as well as other awards.

He was a charter member of Gaines Street Baptist Church in Little Rock, where he played and coached softball for the church team.  He worked in the bus ministry at Olivet Baptist Church in the 1970s.  He and Audrey joined Second Presbyterian Church in 1989 and made many friends there.

Byron served as treasurer for both the Little Rock Musical Coterie and the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs.  He also devoted his time to the Little Rock Civitan Club, and was a current member of the Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge #754 (formerly the Mt. Sinai Lodge #749).

Byron was a loving husband, father, grandparent, uncle, caregiver, and friend.  He was always happy to help wherever help was needed, or to simply lend an ear.  He was a good Christian man, and he will certainly be missed.

His family would like to thank his medical staff and the staff at Hospice Home Care, but especially his caregivers since May, Tim & Cheri Lipscomb.  They made his last few months so much better.

A memorial service will be held for Byron Reeves at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Dr., Little Rock on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM.  Prior to the memorial service, a garden service will be held in the church’s columbarium at 10:40 AM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little Rock Musical Coterie or to Second Presbyterian Church.

Cremation arrangements are under the trusted direction of A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory, 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas, 72076. 501-982-3400. Online guestbook is available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com

I knew Byron through Little Rock Musical Coterie where he was a dedicated member for many years. His expertise as a treasurer was well appreciated. I am so thankful to have had the pleasure of knowing him. Sending love and hope for comfort to his family and close friends.

Kelli, Janine, and Marla, and Audrey, we hate it for your loss of Byron. Long time friends of my parents. Byron sold us a car back in about 1993 for almost nothing when we had nothing to drive. Good close friends and neighbors and college buddies for my folks. Prayers for peace and good memories….I even remember jumping on your trampoline when I was about 13!!!! Love Eva and James Bakalekos

I, too, have lost a father in his 90’s. Such a long life full of family and events! I know you will all miss your patriarch, but have the satisfaction of knowing Byron is in a great place, and you will see him again.

We knew Byron at Ouachta Baptist College back in the 1950s, then we’re neighborhood friends in Tanglewood area of North Little Rock, our daughters and their daughters friends, visited in each others homes, shared Music Coterie interests, and other interests.
May God bless Audrey, their children and grandchildren with MANY GOOD MEMORIES,
