Lloyd Wayne Root, age 77, of Conway, Arkansas passed away on September 7, 2023. He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on August 13, 1946 to the late Gordon Root and Louise Reaves Griffin.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his sister Lariece Craven.
He leaves behind his wife Laurie Root, whom he loved above all and with all his heart; children Shawn Root, Natalie Rudolph, Bryce Shepherd, Michelle Mickens, Megan Honea; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Sherry Dills; and many more friends and extended family.
Wayne dedicated 21 years of service in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart among many other Commendations. Though he did not return home unscathed from his time in war, he did try the best he knew how to care for his family and enjoy the pleasures of life. He was a hobbyist, a jack of all trades, but a master of none (especially not plumbing). He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and boating. He loved gardening, canning foods from his garden, cooking, building models, and playing board games (especially Uno and Mexican Train). He loved spending time with his family and always enjoyed surprises. He spent his last days continuing what he loved, working and staying busy on his new property by the lake. Wayne faced many trials and life just didn’t always come easy, but he was strong, resilient, and taught his family to be the same. He will be missed forever and always loved.
A family hosted memorial with military honors will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 1 PM at that Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
