Nellie Jean Long, age 92

Nellie Jean Long was born November 9, 1930 and passed from this world on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Guy Long; son Michael Long; and grandchildren Wendy Pennington, Stephanie Long and Virgil Long.

Nellie is survived by children Donald Long (Cindy) and Stephen Long (Karen); 10 grandchildren Sean Long, Melissa Neves, Amanda Robertson (Zac), Travis Long (Chauntel), Jon Long (Jennifer), Kaylie Long and Ashlyn Melton; 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many more extended family and friends.

Nellie grew up in North Little Rock, AR with her nine siblings, working at her parent’s Candy Kitchen.  She enlisted in the Marines in 1954, where she met her husband Guy.  They married in 1955 and had three sons. She traveled the world with her husband and three rowdy sons for their military career, before settling in Arkansas where they enjoyed a good life of fishing trips and bowling tournaments. Nellie was tiny but feisty, and she dedicated her life to caring for others.  She was generous, took in every stray animal, and spent countless hours in the kitchen cooking for family, church and school events and was famous for her homemade yeast rolls.  She was truly the matriarch in every sense.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 12:00pm at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
