Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Sharon Sasser Golgan, age 75

Sharon Sasser Golgan of Austin, AR died of natural causes on October 15 2023. Born July 14, 1948 to James “Doc” Sasser and Myrtis Mary Rehburg.

She was preceded in death by her brother James Halcott Sasser Jr and her husband Marshall Patrick Golgan. She is survived by her three children, Mary Lisa Jessee, James Jessee, and Lindsey Rebecca Jessee, and two grandchildren Cindel Robin Zimmerman and Summer Victoria Zimmerman.

She was born and raised in Homestead Florida. She married Mr. John Lee Jessee in 1968 and the couple lived in several states due to his military career, including a stint in Germany.
After separating, she met Marshall Golgan, a fellow lover of music and life. They moved to Arkansas in 1982 and married in 1985. Together they owned The Record Museum in Jacksonville where they made many lifelong friends.

Sharon soon became aware of the Vertac chemical weapons manufacturing site, which continued to poison the environment surrounding her home. As a board member of the Arkansas Peace Center, she led the legal crusade against incineration for over a decade. She fought for all victims of corporate pollution and political corruption. Her work against Vertac led her to collaborate with many organizations such as the Government Accountability Project, and Greenpeace Intl. In 1998, she was named Environmental Woman of the Year.

Her entire life was an endless crusade to help others and leave a better world for our children. Welcoming everyone in need into her home, with a roof, bed, a warm meal and stability- but especially love as they found their way.

She loved all animals, especially cats, and went beyond her means to rescue numerous animals and people.

She didn’t consider herself a Democrat or Republican, but a patriot, and an activist for justice in the ongoing battle against political corruption.

Sharon will always be remembered by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and tenacity for justice.
