Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Linda Darnell Newmister, age 80

Linda Darnell Newmister, beloved matriarch, was born on February 7, 1943, to David and Novice Tenison in Doyline, Louisiana, and peacefully departed this world surrounded by love on November 23, 2023.

In her journey through life, Linda radiated warmth, love, and an unwavering devotion to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald Eugene Newmister Sr, son Ronald Eugene Newmister Jr, sisters Mary Jane Petty and Joyce Herren, and her dear friend Wayne Hawley.

Linda is survived by her son, James (Jimmy) Newmister of Sherwood, along with her two cherished granddaughters, Jennifer Childers (Abb) and Heather Funderburg (Brandon), and her three great grandsons, Landon and Kaden Childers, and Barrett Funderburg, all residing in North Little Rock. These great-grandsons were her joy and the light of her life.

A woman of immense love and passions, Linda adored her family beyond measure. Her nieces recently came to visit her and told her they always admired her because she was a true bad-A. This made her laugh over and over. Linda was a strong woman and could do anything she put her mind to. Her love for fishing, tending to beautiful flowers, and her faithful companion, Rocky, whom she affectionately referred to as Fluffy, were intricate parts of her life. Linda’s resilience and adaptability were evident in her life as a military wife when she married Ron, accompanying him to various stations across the country, from New Hampshire, North Carolina, Florida and Alaska, before finding a home in Sherwood, Arkansas. Some of her fondest memories from her travels were etched in the shores of Florida while snook fishing and the remarkable experiences she had while residing in Alaska, her most beloved place.

Linda’s life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her legacy lives on through the warmth she instilled in her family and friends, the fond memories shared, and the love that continues to blossom in their hearts.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to family friend Kelsey Victory who helped with Linda’s care these last few months. Thank you for loving our Meme and taking such great care of her.

Linda’s Graveside Service will be Friday December 1,2023 at 12:00pm at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery located at 1501 West Maryland Ave, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72120.

Sitting here thinking of what a generous soul, loving heart, and fabulous sense of humor Aunt Linda had. I can’t think of her without smiling.

I grew up with Linda, and was there when her lovely Mother died of Cancer. Linda became the caregiver for her two younger sisters and her severely depressed father. She was beautiful, sweet, and so very strong. I always admired her. Rest in Peace, sweet friend.

It was always a pleasure to see Linda when she worked at Safeway/Harvest Foods with my father in law. Such a kind lady. Prayers for the family.
