Gary was a lifetime member and commander at Rose City VFW Post 10442. He was also a lifetime member of the DAV, American Legion, and Military Order of the Purple Heart. He served his country in the Army 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam war.
Gary liked fishing, hunting, and camping – or anything to do with being outdoors.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny McKenzie, and sister Debbie McKenzie McAlister.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda McKenzie; aunt Ketha Carter; siblings Alice Klapp, Frank McKenzie, Cynthia Schweiger, Michele Noel, Rebecca McKenzie, Shawn McKenzie, and Jackie Macaro; and many special cousins, numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.
Gary’s family and friends would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent North and the staff at Arkansas Hospice for the care they gave him during his final fight with cancer.
A family-hosted memorial service will be held at the Rose City VFW 10442, 6101 Hwy 70, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72118 on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 1:00PM.
There will be a a family hosted graveside service with full Military honors at Arkansas Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72120 on March 18, 2024 at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his honor to the VFW, The Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home, or The Friendly Chapel Church Of The Nazarene located at 116 South Pine Street, North Little Rock, Arkansas, 72114.
