Landon Sherwood Yant, age 87

Landon Sherwood Yant, age 87, of Greenbrier, Arkansas, passed away on February 13, 2024.  He was born in Enola, Arkansas on August 21, 1936 to Robert D. Yant and Velva L. (Smith) Yant.

Landon is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years, Willene (Shaver) Yant, his son Mark Yant, and eight brothers and sisters; Nathan, Voneda, Helen, Dutch, Del, Erbie, Sandra, and Dwayne.

He is survived by his daughter Marilyn Haygood (Billy) of Greenbrier, daughter in law Stephanie Yant of Benton, and sister Rue Yount (Bill) of Greenbrier; grandchildren Megan Sherwood (Brandon) of Heber City, Utah, Katie McKinney (Spencer) of Greenbrier, BJ Haygood (Kim) of Conway, Cameron Haygood (Carly) of Arkadelphia, and Brandon Yant (Julia) of Hot Springs; great grandchildren Jackson, Carter, Grant, and Lincoln Sherwood; Moses, Ray, Reuben, Marty, and Miller Kate McKinney; Jayci Cate Yant; and a host of nieces and nephews, family members and friends.  He was Papa to many more.

Landon graduated from Little Rock Central High School and was a multisport varsity athlete.  He worked for and retired from Rock Island Railroad, the VA hospital, and the Arkansas Air National Guard.

He was a big Razorback fan, attending many games in War Memorial Stadium and watching them many more times in football, basketball, baseball, and track.  Following his second knee replacement last fall, he set a goal to participate in the Senior Olympics in 2024.

He liked to hunt, play golf, travel, eat out, watch westerns and ball games and spend time with family and friends.  He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenbrier.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Greenbrier, Arkansas, #2 Tyler, Greenbrier 72058.  Funeral service will follow on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Greenbrier, #2 Tyler Street, Greenbrier, AR 72058.  Interment will follow at Cadron Valley Cemetery on Wilson Bottom Road, Greenbrier.

    Landon was always so welcoming to us at church, and we will never forget his Christian kindness. He truly made us feel valued there and looked forward to his greetings.

    Uncle Landon was always such a joy to be with. He gave my husband & me some advice that seriously changed our lives positively. He made a difference!

    Marilyn, Rue, I just read of Landon’s passing. He was a good man and I loved him and Willene. I would have come to his service if I had known this before reading it today. May God comfort you during this time.
