Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Sandra Lea Yates, age 74

Sandra Lea Yates, 74, passed away on May 13, 2024, in Conway, Arkansas, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Sandy was born on March 29, 1950, to Barbara Emge and Donald Holder in Evansville, Indiana.  She was the oldest of seven children: Karen, Michael, Linda, Patrick, Laura, and Maria.  She graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1967. In 1969, she met James Larry through a mutual friend.  They were married on August 3, 1974, and went on to have three children.

Sandy was predeceased by her father and mother. She is survived by her husband, James Larry Yates; her children, James Lee Yates (Lori Leavell), Jennifer Lea Shepard, and Joshua Luke Yates; and four grandchildren, Sofia Shepard, Jack Shepard, Violet Shepard, and Sibyl Yates.

Sandy was a devoted mother who embodied unconditional love, deep faith in God, and an unending generosity evidenced by the care she showed her children, her bonus children, and her grandchildren.  She wanted everyone to feel welcome, loved, and well-fed.  Friends and family will remember her contagious laugh, bright smile, and the selfless care she bestowed on those she loved.

A family-hosted celebration of Sandy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the American Legion in Tell City, Indiana.  In lieu of traditional mourning attire, we request the joy of your company in bright colors, reflecting Sandy’s vibrant spirit.

Sad to see this; Sandy and I became friends while both attending Calvary Baptist Church (Evansville) and were members of the Young Adult Sunday School Class. We spent many hours together making house calls and visiting with those in our community. She was focused, dedicated to the mission and always ready to laugh. I am sure she was a bright light to all who knew her. Peace and prayers to her family.

I remember so many fun times with the Holder family at their house on hwy 65. Karen and I were best friends but Sandy was always in on our many escapades. Those are some of the best memories I have as a child. Karen and Linda, so very sorry for your loss.

I remember Sandy from back in 1968 when I first met her. She was the “cool” older sister to Linda and Karen, with whom I went to high school. Had a some fun times visiting with her over the years. Peace be with you, Sandy!
