It was so hard watching Doug go through this horrible disease. Even though we were divorced I was going to be there for him. He wax the best father to Josh and Kaitlyn and such a hardworking guy. May you RIP Doug and know how much you were loved by so many people.

Doug came into our lives when Ellie got together with Josh, ten years ago. It has been a beautiful ten years with Doug, he was so easy to love. We had lots of good times co-grand-parenting with him, funny memories when Ellie & Josh would leave baby Jack with us three “old” folks. Doug stayed at our home quite a few times, we had fun vacations with him in Maine and last summer in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with Doug usually grilling for us! He graciously hosted us at his home in Cabot, Arkansas and we enjoyed his great friends and laid back lifestyle. So much he shared will live on in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with all his family.

We knew Doug from the Cabin between Langley and Albert Pike, having met him thru our cousins. He was always engaging and interesting to visit with, just one of those folks you instantly enjoy being around. Just learned about this yesterday when one of the cousins sent word, and wanted to pay our respects to those close to him who we’ve not had the pleasure of knowing, and to thank him for all he contributed to our get togethers, our conversations, and especially for the love he showered on a place our family holds most dear down there on the creek. I am certain that without Doug, my children might never have seen the place and got to experience it with everyone, Pleasant trails till we meet again, we will not forget you.

I was blessed to have an exceptional sister but no brother–until Doug came into my life. After his father Blu married my mother, Doug gol to go to the Marham Homeplace and loved it like I did. Because I have lived at least 1000 miles from it for decades, Doug took up talking care of the cabin. He kept it painted and added appliances and furniture. He was welcomed into the Markham clan although some did not get to know Doug as well as they would have liked. I talked with Doug by phone and was able to get to Ark from time to time and could enjoy his company. He was a good man. I will miss him. I was so honored that he will have his ashes spread at the Homeplace. He honors our heritage. See you later, Doug!
