David Michael Mathis, born June 8, 1967, went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
David attended Sylvan Hills High School until his senior year and graduated from Cabot High School. David was a member of the U.S. Navy, serving all across the globe, with a focus on the Mediterranean Sea. David was a tug boat captain, helping to dock some of the largest ships in the world. He excelled at his work, and when he left the Navy, he became a Merchant Marine Sailor in the Gulf of Mexico. David worked on a research vessel and had several roles. He was always the Safety Officer and had extensive fire and rescue training.
He left his career to work full time taking care of his parents. He did an amazing job, even after he became too sick to take care of himself. He was an avid sports fan with the Arkansas Razorbacks and Kansas City Chiefs topping the list. A loyal fan, he suffered with us all following the Hogs and was finally able to enjoy the Chiefs success. David had a great sense of humor and knew a seemingly endless number of jokes. He always had something funny to say.
David was preceded in death by his father, Albert S. Mathis, and is survived by his mother Peggy L. Mathis, his Aunt Lorraine Jenkins (Ken), his brothers Hunter Mathis (Cindi), Bronson Mathis (Amber), his sisters Jaemi Heim (Kurt), and Jennifer Knight. He is also survived by his nephews Colin Mathis, Bryson Mathis, Hayden Mathis, and Addison Mathis, as well as his niece Hannah Mathis. David also had numerous cousins that he loved and adored and that will miss him dearly.
