Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Virginia Ann “Florence” Smith, age 73

Virginia Ann “Florence” Smith was born January 28, 1951 in Transylvania, Louisiana to Lonnie Cephus and Jenny Ruth Florence. She was raised on a small cotton farm in Fayette, Mississippi and met the love of her life there.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Odell “Sonnyboy” Smith of 55 years; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and one grandchild.

She is survived by her 4 children Johnny (Kellie) Smith of Alexandria IN, Tim (Joy) Smith of Tichnor, AR, Sam (Rikki) Smith of Marianna FL, and Jenny (Troy) Singleton also of Tichnor, AR; 10 grandchildren Jonathan, Elizabeth, Miriam, Amber, Luke, Rachel, Brianna, Kylie, Samuel, and Hannah; 8 great-grandchildren; plus other family members and friends.

She was an example of faithfulness and devotion to God and Family. Her kindness and generosity impacted the lives of those that knew her, from home cooked meals served at the family table, welcoming anyone that stopped by, to the care she showed to others in need. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, crocheting and just caring for the ones she loved. She was truly the other half of Sonnyboy. From their ups and downs, odd jobs, business adventures, and travels, they were never apart. Their love got them through life together, and now it continues through eternity.

Virginia was my best friend at Jefferson County High School (class of 1969) in Fayette, MS. I will truly miss her but I know she is where she wanted to be. She had a beautiful memorial service and everyone spoke very highly of her which I was glad to be there to hear it all. Fly high, my dear friend and I will see you later. Louise
