Lisa Charlene Howerton-Self, age 60, passed away on October 15, 2024, in Little Rock, AR. Bon on April 11, 1964, Lisa lived a life marked by faith, love, and devotion to her family and friends.
Lisa graduated from North Pulaski High School and carried through her life the lessons of compassion and kindness she learned early on. She did not pursue high education; instead, she focused on her family, creating a warm and nurturing home for her children and grandchildren. A woman deeply rooted in her faith, Lisa worshiped at home, surrounded by her grandchildren, where she shared her love for God’s word. Her days were often spent digging into the Holy Scriptures, listening to worship music, and caring for her grandchildren, whom she adored immensely.
Lisa’s personality was a beacon of light and warmth. Known for her softspoken nature and heavenly words, she cherished simple joys like the sight of red cardinals or the playful antics of her favorite cartoon character, Tweety Bird. The color purple, dolphins, and the beauty of nature were sources of joy for her. Her love extended beyond her immediate family as she was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, valuing heavenly treasures over material ones.
She leaves behind her lifelong partner, Roger Self; her son, John Self; sisters Tracy Lynn Hornbeck and Julie Howerton Whitman; and her beloved grandchildren Stain Bongfeldt, Alexander Self, Sebastian Self, Nora Hooper, Eli, Catalina, and Aubrey Price. She will also be fondly remembered by her nephew Mike Lawhon and his family, and niece Jeanne Lawhon and her family. Lisa is preceded in death by her mother, Jeanne McCarty; son, Justin Self; daughter Britney Price; and nephew Cody Whitman.
A Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, October 26th from 11am-1pm in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Lisa’s life was a testament to her faith and the deep connections she fostered with all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be cherished.
