Paul T. Voss, age 70

Paul T. Voss of Magnolia, AR, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, at the John L McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, AR at the age of 70.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ellen Voss of Leola, AR, and a brother, David Voss.

Paul is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rhonda; three children, Anne Oldham of Harrisonburg, VA, Paul T Voss Jr (April) of Magnolia, AR, and Ashly Roberts of Magnolia, AR. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Sarah Oldham, Joshua D Oldham, Brayden Voss, Conner Voss (Katlin), Somer Jo Roberts; two great grandchildren, Maverick Voss, Hadlee Voss; two brothers, Robert Voss (Theresa) of Los Lunas, NM and Jody Voss (Beth) of Sheridan, AR; a sister-in-law, Laurie Voss of Fayetteville, AR, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Paul was born to T. Jack and Ellen Voss on July 26, 1954, in Superior, WI. He was raised in Leola, AR and graduated from Carthage High School in May of 1972. He was awarded an academic scholarship to then Southern State University. While at Southern State he worked at Fallin Tractor as a mechanic. He later transferred to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he graduated in December of 1976.

After graduation and completion of the ROTC Program, he was commissioned in the Army as a Second Lieutenant. He served from January 1977 to August 1988 where he achieved the rank of Captain. While enlisted, he served at Ft. Sill, OK where he taught at the artillery school and wrote nuclear weapons manuals, some of which are still in use today. While stationed at Ft. Sill he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his service. He also served overseas in Baumholder, Germany where he commanded a battery of MLRS Rocket Systems. He was transferred to Frankfurt, Germany, where he served on General Colin Powell’s staff. After being transferred back to the States, he was stationed at Ft. McClellan, AL and taught at the U.S. Army Chemical Corp School. He was honorably discharged in August of 1988.

After spending a year in the oil fields of South Florida, Paul returned home to South Arkansas. He worked for two chemical plants in El Dorado, AR. He finished his career as the maintenance supervisor at the Magnolia Housing Authority. When he wasn’t at work, he spent his time at the Alcardun Heights Community Center where he tutored high risk youth who affectionately referred to him as Daddy Paul. He retired from the Housing Authority in 2014. After retiring, he remained in Magnolia where he spent his time with his children and grandchildren.

He spent most of his final year being cared for by the John L McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, AR.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the VA Hospital, Dr. Ked Davis, and Dr. James Chambliss for their kindness and compassionate care during his final months. Also, to Paul and Rhonda’s church family at First Baptist Church of Magnolia, there are no words to convey the thanks for the prayers and support in this time of loss.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. in Magnolia, AR on  Friday, November 8, 2024.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9,2024, at the First Baptist Church of Magnolia fellowship hall.
