Julius C. Haas was born in Pahokee, Florida on May 24, 1934. He met the love of his life in Brinkley where his family farmed. They married and moved to Little Rock. Soon came three children who they took to church on the regular to learn about Jesus. He sang all the time, sometimes the tune of one hymn with the verses of another and the chorus of a third. Sometimes he sang songs from his youth that were quite creative and funny. It was a great life.
For the next 41 years, he was employed at 3M Company until retirement. During this time, he taught his grandson how to pitch a baseball like a pro and bought a larger van so he could take more kids to baseball and basketball camp. He received an award from the coach and student body at his grandson’s school they said had never been awarded before and never would again. Those were exciting days.
He had many medical incidents for various cancers and required a mechanical heart valve after getting sick from the bovine valve they had used. So many times his family did not know if he would go home with them from the hospital but prayers and excellent surgeons prevailed. His medical staff was sure he had nine lives but then they had to add a cat to get nine more!
After he was well enough, Jake enjoyed taking Nita places. When they finally had an empty nest, they would sometimes decide to go out to dinner, often ending up somewhere such as New Orleans to dine at a favorite restaurant and drive back in the morning. He also loved to cook for her. It was common to see him describing the dish he had made to a group eagerly writing down the ingredients and directions. Nita could not wait to come home from work most days to a hot, tasty meal.
There are so many wonderful things that could be said about him and many of his friends are telling his family how much they loved him. Jake never met a stranger, he loved family gatherings and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and many friends. He was a good Christian man and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Cabot. Jake passed away at 90 years of age on December 4, 2024.
He was predeceased by his son David Ray Haas, his parents, Samuel Edward Haas and Florence Gilson Haas, sisters, Pauline Haas, Eva Mae Haas Gambill, Josephine Haas Caldwell Bagshaw, Venus Haas Lane, brother Samuel Theodore Haas and his faithful dog, Dolly.
Survivors are his wife of 71 years, Nita; children Julia Haas Lovins, Danny Haas (Roxanne); grandchildren Chris Lovins (Elena), Cody Haas, Justin Haas (Abbey); great grandchildren Dabney Lovins and Harrison Julius Haas who all adored him and will miss him daily. There are also many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends from everywhere who he loved very much. He had a special connection with them all!
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 12:30pm with funeral at 1:30pm at A Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville. Burial at Forrest Hills Cemetery.

Paul and I had the pleasure of getting to know Mr. Jake when we met at Faith Missionary Baptist Church and He and Nita were in our Community group. He had an infectious smile and always such a great story to tell. He loved Jesus and it showed. We will miss you Mr. Jake and I hope maybe they have the brownies you use to ask me to make for you Rest easy.🙏
Mr. Haas was a very kind and wonderful man. Judi and I were BFFs in high school and Mr. & Mrs. Haas always made me feel welcome at their home. Judi and I made many a batch of m&m sugar cookies in her Mom’s kitchen. And Mr. Haas always greeted me with a smile and a hug! He is greatly missed, I know! My heart goes out to Mrs. Haas, Judi, Danny and all of their families.
I will miss Jake for sure .He was a wonderful friend .
Mr. Haas was one of my very first clients when I opened Childress Insurance Agency to the public in 2002. He was a very very special man. We all loved him dearly. We will miss his sweet smile, his big hugs, and all his stories. We are praying for all of your family.
My prayers for your family. I met Jake, and Nita when I served on the Pastoral Staff at Antioch Baptist Church in Little Rock. They were always so friendly, and kind to me. I know Jake will be missed by all who knew him. He was a man of faith in Jesus Christ. There is such a comfort to know that Believers in Christ can go into His presence when we leave this life.
