On Thursday morning January 2, 2025, David Cantrell, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and born-again Christian passed away at the age of 79 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
David was born the son of sharecroppers on February 16, 1945 in Liberty Valley, Arkansas to Martin and Minnie Cantrell.
In 1963, while attending a Saturday singing, at Sunny Side Baptist Church, David met the love of his life. The two married later that year and enjoyed 57 happy years together.
From driving a truck over the road to traveling for construction work as a pipe-fitter and in the words of a nephew, “I’m not sure he wasn’t in the mafia”; David was a man that worked hard to provide not only for his family but a good many relatives during his lifetime. Whatever was going on was just fine with him as long as “Mama” was happy.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, and young son, Jeffrey. Also preceding were brothers, Donald, Glen, Butch and David’s twin brother Joe.
He is survived by his son and daughter in law Kelly and Regina Cantrell, grandsons Jace Cantrell (Bridget), Tyler Sewell and great grandchildren Issac and Amara. Also surviving is his sister Linda Gerlinger (Bob) along with a good many other extended family members and wonderful friends.
David attended Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and was a proud member of the Cleburne County Cruisers car club. He loved to tell stories and you could be sure 50% of every story was true. You just never knew which 50%. He was known for his humorous sayings and charming endearments including, “If you are going to be dumb, you’d better be tough” and “How’s the prettiest girl in Cleburne County?”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, January 18th at 1 pm at Calvary Baptist Church in Heber Springs with Brother Josh Murphree will presiding.
Burial has taken place at Sunnyside cemetery, in anticipation of forecasted low temperatures and winter precipitation.
Pallbearers (honorary) are Larry Cantrell, Jerry Cantrell, Kyle Wilkerson, Jamie McAnally, Jace Cantrell and Kelly Cantrell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to A Natural State Funeral Service 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. 501-982-3400. Online guestbook available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com
