Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Larry Dale Heusel, age 76

Larry Dale Heusel passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 31st, 2025 in Perryville, Arkansas, in the Perry County Nursing Center. He was born February 5, 1948, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Albert Keith and Myrtia Opal (Conner) Heusel. He was 76 years old when he went to be with his Father in Heaven.  As a boy, he loved his family and his sisters, his dog, hunting, working on cars and driving fast cars.  He also loved to watch OU football games with his dad while growing up in Granite, Oklahoma.

Larry met his bride, Peggy in Woodward, Oklahoma, while visiting his uncle Clinton at Woodward High School. They were married shortly after and raised their family to love the Lord in Booker, Texas, where he loved wrestling and playing catch with his kids, taking his family on amazing vacations around the United States. Larry also loved watching his children play sports and ski the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado with his father, his children and church friends.

Larry loved the Lord and always had a tender heart to serve those in need.  He and Peggy were foster parents for 20 newborns and young children for over ten years.  Larry attended College church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas. Before moving to Arkansas in 2009 he was an elder and Bible class teacher in Perryton, Texas where he lived for 35 years.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Lee Galloway.  He is survived by two sisters, Janet Galloway and Elaine (Dave) Isbell both of Colorado, Peggy, his wife of 49 years, his son Jonathan Heusel (DeShawn) of Edmond, Oklahoma, his son Jeremy Heusel (Angela) of Overland Park, Kansas, his son Kevin Heusel (Khammie) of Beaverton, Oregon and daughter Kendra Henderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He was a proud grandfather to his nine grandchildren Zane (Renée), Grace, Walker, Madison, Maggie, Mason, Charli, Darren (Kia) and Trysten.

After graduating from high school in Granite, Oklahoma, he served his country as a sailor in the Navy from 1969-1973.  He later studied at the Okmulgee Tech receiving a certification in diesel mechanics with a specialty in fuel injection. Larry later went to work for Amoco where he was a gas measurement tech calibrating meters and checking orfice plates, technical work that he loved.

He believed he would rise one day to walk with the Lord forever as it says in Rev 21:3-7. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of A Natural State Funeral service and he will be laid to rest beside his parents in the Granite City Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank Perry County Nursing Facility for their wonderful care.  In lieu of flowers, it was Larry’s wish that memorial donations be sent to mission work supported by the College church of Christ at 712 East Race Ave, Searcy, Arkansas, 72143.

Dad, I didn’t get to spend as much time with you as I wanted and I’m sorry you had to fight for so long. Thank you for teaching me everything that I know about cars, thank you for raising me and giving me opportunities, and thank you for giving me my love of fast cars. You will be missed and thought of often. Love you Dad.
