Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Marilyn Rose Witzofsky Proffer, age 89

Marilyn Rose Witzofsky Proffer, age 89, of Jacksonville, was born August 15, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late George Witzofsky and Anna Gardie Witzofsky. Marilyn lost her battle with leukemia on Tuesday, January 14th.

Marilyn is survived by her sons Kirk Proffer, Robert Proffer (Sharon) of Florissant, MO; daughter Susan Proffer Hill (Danny) of Beebe; and her twin sister Margaret Witzofsky Nicolas of Lebanon, MO. She had 8 grandchildren Beverly, Jimmy, Laura, Katie, Matt, Ryan, Andy and Steven; 4 great-grandchildren, 12 bonus great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was also cherished by many friends who were like family to her; Mike and Jerry Ochoniky and her special friend Don DuPont.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Donald H. Proffer; her son David J. Proffer; parents George and Anna; brother George and twin brothers Robert and Richard Witzofsky.

Marilyn grew up and lived in St. Louis until her and her husband, Don, bought Del Mar resort in Branson, MO in 1978 until Don’s death in 1981. After selling the resort and visiting her sons in Arkansas, she decided to stay in Jacksonville, AR. She and her son, Dave, bought Captain Video Arcade in 1983 until it closed. She worked as an office assistant at Jacksonville Towers for 10 years and retired. She remained in Jacksonville until her death.

Marilyn was of the Catholic faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and was the best at both. She enjoyed watching college sports, rooting for both Razorbacks and Mizzou. She enjoyed serving people as she was on many committees at the Towers. She unfortunately started to lose her hearing when she was in her 60’s until she became totally deaf, but that didn’t stop her from communicating. Her family bought her a cell phone and her son-in-law, Danny, showed her how to use it. She learned to text, and it opened up a whole new world for her. Marilyn was a very kind and giving person, even though she didn’t have much. Even at her death, she donated her body to science. She will be missed deeply by our family as we are all very close.

A family-hosted celebration of life ceremony on Sunday, January 26th at Jacksonville Towers 200 S. Hospital in Jacksonville from 2:00-4:00pm.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Khalil and the nurses at CARTI of North Little Rock. Special thanks to Henry Miller, Johnny, Marilyn, and Dot, and many of the other Tower residents that helped her.

In lieu of flowers, send donations to Jacksonville Senior Center and Meals on Wheels.
