Phillip Michael Everett, age 74, of Alexander, passed away on January 17, 2025. He was born on August 6, 1950 in Goodland, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Carrie Everett and brother, Gerald Everett. Phillip retired after 44 years as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a Razorback fan and enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and scuba diving.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sarita; three children, Cory Everett (Lauren), Brett Blackstone, and Chris Blackstone (Amber); sister, Cynthia Adkins, and two grandchildren, Quinn and Hazel Everett; along with numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Sophie and Stella.
Phil wanted to keep things simple like he was, so he did not want a service or big to do. His last request was to remain with his wife until her time comes and then they will be placed in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean together where they loved to be.
A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, especially Kim, Jenny, Brittany, and Maria for all their love and care. In his final days thank you to Saline Memorial and Mickey, John, and Hailee who I will forever be grateful.

Phil, you are the love of my life. Never a dull moment. You were always willing to go, try, or do anything I asked even if it was something you really were not interested in like concerts, shopping, Mardi Gras, etc. Most of the time you were the only guy around but that was ok because all my friends grew to love you as much as me. We have had some great adventures to look back on, all the beach vacations, dive trips, Hawaii, Indonesia, camping, fishing, ball games, etc. I honestly do not know how I am going to live without you but with God and all those wonderful friends we made I will be okay. Although my pain is unbearable, I am so thankful you are not suffering anymore and are finally at peace. You are going to love this, so I found a beautiful beach urn with two chairs on Amazon (of course) to keep you in since we hadn’t been able to go to the beach. You will always be with me now till we meet again. I love you so much. You were a good husband and man.
Love this. Can’t wait to come see you & Phil’s urn. I know he loves it
Sarita, such a beautiful testimony of your life with Phil. You are in my prayers. Love you.

Phil was a true gem! The sweetest man, who adored his beautiful wife, Sarita! We met through Jeff Bates, as we all traveled all over to concerts to see him. Phil watched out for all of us “women on a mission”, and was happy and willing to do so without complaining one bit! I’m so blessed that our paths crossed back in 2007, and we all became great friends. I will cherish that friendship forever! We will miss you dearly, sweet Phil!
Sarita, my dear friend, my sincere condolences to you as I know you’re gonna be lost without the love of your life! Phil loved you so much and wanted you to be happy always. So stay strong and know you will see your sweet Phil again! If you need anything, please let me know! I love you and I’m praying for you now and in the weeks to come! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Phil loved you and was impressed with the party January. He kept saying how special you were. I wont mention Memphis, but he was glad he was there.
My name is David Corless, a retired locomotive engineer from the UPRR out of NLR. You can call me at (501) 730-1093 if you wish.
There are two important pieces of information of which the families of most deceased railroaders are not aware. The information is outlined below.
All the major railroads carry a group life insurance policy on all their active and retired employees. The only group of railroaders not included in this are those who worked in management. All families should call MetLife, just to be sure about coverage.
The insurance company that handles the policy is MetLife, which has a dedicated telephone number just for this policy. The number is 800-310-7770.The retired railroad employee benefit is $2,000.
Railroad employees are not covered by Social Security, but rather a retirement program called Railroad Retirement. You need to call the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) at 877-772-5772 to make them aware of the railroader’s death.
Thank you so much. I have called the RRB but was unaware of the Met Life policy. I do appreciate it as Phil did not have life insurance, 401k or anything but his retirement check.
My name is Jim Everett even though we were no kin Phil and I always called each other cus when we worked together or just ran into each other in the crew room, Phil was always a pleasure to work with and will be missed by everyone that knew him! RIP my friend!

Fran, you will never know what a blessing and inspiration you have been to me. We go back a long way and you have always been there for me. You were the one that introduced me to Phil and at first I said no way. But I gave in a met him on a blind date on Valentine’s Day, 1985 and we married six months later with you being my maid of honor. It is ironic that we both lost our husbands on the same date. You were blessed to have a great one too. I will always be blessed and grateful to have you in my life
Sarita, I am so sad for you and your family and the loss of Phil. I know you are heartbroken trying to navigate this loss. I will keep you and the kids in my thoughts and prayers.
