Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Doug Hurst, age 53

Doug Hurst, 53, of Hot Springs, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, from complications following a stroke he suffered in March 2024.

Doug was born in Santa Barbara, California, on July 12, 1971, to the late Lt. Col. Arnold and Linda (Moore) Hurst. Still a young boy when he and his family moved to Sherwood, Arkansas, Doug spent most of his childhood in Sherwood, graduating from Sylvan Hills High School in 1989.

Doug joined the Army in 1996 and was an M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer while stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado.

Aside from his military service, Doug had a few other hobbies, like charming women, which he was surprisingly good at, even earning the nickname “Dougles” due to his ever-present smile and charm. Even when a stroke took his ability to speak, he could still charm the room.

Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arnold and Delores Hurst Sr., and Suzanne Kornblum and Ewell Moore; his parents, Lt. Col. Arnold Hurst Jr. and Linda (Moore) Hurst; and his sister, Loretta “Lori” Hurst.

Doug is survived by his son Patrick Chase (Emily) Hurst; two grandchildren, K.J. and Kai; and his uncle Anthony (Wendy) Moore.

Although Doug’s life had its ups and downs, and struggles were not a stranger to him, Doug would have given the shirt off his back and the shoes from his feet if someone needed them. His body may be gone, but his spirit and memory will never die.

A special thank you to his nurse, Jeanette, at The Springs of Premier Health & Rehabilitation.

A short memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2025 at England First Baptist Church with Pastor Kenny Pasley officiating followed by a repast at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Doug’s name to Jackson House at jacksonhouse.org
