Nina Patricia “Pat” McCormick Cummings, age 80

Our loving, mother and granny, Nina Patricia “Pat” McCormick Cummings passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at home surrounded by her loved ones and was reunited with her loving husband, Bob.

Born the third of eight children on November 29, 1944, in Socastee, South Carolina to John Woodrow McCormick and Ninaree Mae McCormick. She married Robert “Bob” Leroy Cummings, Sr. on December 27, 1963. They gave birth to two children, daughter Nina Patricia “Patti” Cummings and son Robert Leroy “Robby” Cummings, Jr. before leaving Charleston, SC. She spent 21 years as an Air Force wife where she made a home for her family in the Philippines, Texas, Mississippi, Guam, England, Florida and Arkansas. She actively supported her husband’s career by her many volunteer activities with the Noncommissioned officer’s Wives Club, Family Services, and Girl Scouts.

During the time that Pat lived in Conway, SC (1977), she stepped up as a mentor to the wives of her husband’s troops by challenging them to finish their formal education and completing her own high school diploma requirements, not realizing the role model that she was setting for her own children by graduating at 33 years of age.

While in England, Pat took her first job outside of the home, and then when in Florida began a part time job at the base exchange at Homestead. Subsequently starting her own career in 1982 when she took a full-time position at Little Rock Air Force Base exchange (BX) four seasons, hardware and paint department. In 1983 she received a proficiency award certificate stating that she “projects leadership to her peers and high level of competence.”

In March 1991 she received a Certificate of Professional Achievement which stated that she had “earned <her> place among the elite!” By this time Pat had moved to the main store Power Zone. In April 1991 she was given an Excellence Award for outstanding performance. September 1997, Pat was recognized for “superior customer service…appreciation <she> received from store’s patrons… provided assistance to customers and coworkers, above and beyond the call…”

7 October 2006, Pat retired from the Army Air Force Exchange Service culminating a twenty-five-year stellar career. Pat often thought of her own career as insignificant, not realizing how many lives she touched.

Her greatest achievements were being a wife, Mother and Granny. She enjoyed dancing, including clogging and square dancing, working in her yard, and camping.

Pat is preceded by her parents, loving husband, Bob, and many of her siblings: Betty, Harold, Joyce, Bernice and Sandra. She is survived by children Patti and Robby (Denise Wooldridge), younger sisters Hilda and Georgette (Royce), grandchildren Pippa, Casaundra, Brittany, Seth, Jaxon, and Spencer, as well as great grandchildren.

Pat was one of first people I met in 87 when I started. She was always special. Years later we became office mates with 2 other ladies. Those were wonderful times. Pat taught me a lot and even kept me straight. We had a big office and everyone liked to hang in it, so Pat had code words to shut up if the gossip was going bad.
