Derald was such a lovely man. I was his landlady for many years but was like family to my daughter and I. He looked out for us and always did little kind gestures throughout his time with us. He was always very punctual with his rent, a true gentleman, helpful and even at 91 years old still insisted on taking out the trash for us. He also watched out for other people in our neighborhood. I remember him giving rides to one neighbor who always walked everywhere and didn’t have a vehicle, and he found little odd jobs for another neighbor who needed the money. He cared dearly for his girlfriend Madeline and his kids too. He never wanted to be any trouble to anybody in any way, even in his death. I am proud to have known him. He reminds me a little of George Bailey from Its a Wonderful Life. I don’t think he had any real appreciation of what are rare and special gem he was. But everyone who knew him sure did!
