Early in the morning of Wednesday February 26, 2025, Neva Sharlene Briscoe, aged 67, left us to be with the Lord. She was born to Julia Juanita Baxter Briscoe and Willie Thomas Briscoe on the 12th of May 1957 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Neva loved the Lord and enjoyed worshipping at the First Assembly in Sherwood Arkansas. She especially loved her Sunday School class led by Mattie Ruth Tipton.
Neva grew up in Everman, Tx. She graduated from Everman High School in 1974 and received her associate’s degree from Tarrant County Jr. College. She followed her mother’s footsteps by selling candy as her first job. She worked at Montgomery Wards selling candy, cosmetics and jewelry. Here she met her first husband, Larry. Wards promoted her to the Accounting Department where she worked for many years. She also was a bookkeeper for Causey’s Jewelry, Barco, and Texas Steel. After retiring, she worked part-time at Honey Baked Ham.
In 2000, Neva moved to Georgia where she lived several years. She then returned to Texas to care for her mother and moved to Arkansas in 2019. Neva wished to thank Beverly, Kyle, and Erin Waters for inviting her to live in their home when she moved to Arkansas. Neva was Godmother to Kyle and Katelyn Waters . She babysat Cody Waters, their brother. and enjoyed her friendship with Beverly. She loved them all very much.
Neva was very creative. She liked to write and enjoyed crocheting and other crafts. She also loved hummingbirds, dogs, and cats. Collections of elephants and giraffes abounded in her home. Her favorite animal was the elephant because they are empathetic and don’t let other elephants be left behind. Giving to and doing for others gave Neva great pleasure. She found joy snuggling with and walking Gracie, her King Charles Cavalier and watching movies.
We would like to thank those who have loved her well: Her caretakers Barbara Hankins, Barbara Young, Joy, and Barbara Mackey; Mattie Ruth Tipton, Gray Warlick and Brandi Williamson, Mary Haddock, and Dr. John Cockerell. We would also like to thank Natural State Funeral Home for their kindness and help during this time.
Neva was preceded in death by her father, Tommy Briscoe, her mother, Juanita Briscoe, her husband Larry Waters, and her husband Phil Johnson. She is survived by her sister, Judith Gaylene Butler of Everman, Tx; nephew, William Earl Florence and his wife Beth Ann Florence; their children Layla Marie, Madisyn LeAnne, Wesley Cage, Bentley Blake, and Beckley Blaze, all of Burleson, Tx, and her beloved dog Gracie (who has gone to live with her best friends Georgia and Barbara Hankins).
A Celebration of Neva’s life will be held later this year in Sherwood, AR and Everman, Tx. We will let all our friends and family know. Neva will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of her sweet spirit, Neva would encourage you to share your love, kindness, and generosity with others.
If you would like to donate in honor of Neva, please donate to your local Animal Shelter or ASCPA (ascpa.org).

Dear Neva,
You are by far one of the most gentle, genuine, kind,
selfless people that God gifted me as a friend. I never saw or heard a bad or inappropriate word from you. Thank you for the interesting conversations we all had. They are unforgettable.
I will forever keep you close to my heart, for I’m a better person for knowing you. You were a blessing to so many and many loved you. God wants all of the good ones and you were one of the best. You will be dearly missed.
Sincerely, Zana
Neva, you were the sweetest niece anyone could have. You were such a pretty little girl and loved listening to and laughing at the stories I wrote for you when you were very young. I never heard you say a bad word about another person: You had a great sense of humor, and you truly did have a Sweet and Kind Heart. And incidentally, I collect elephants too.
Neva, in age, you were between my two children, Julia and Keith. They both enjoyed playing with you at their grandmother’s house when you were children. My husband and I enjoyed our many visits with you while you were growing up in Everman, Texas. You were a lovely person and will be missed.
