Josiah Ray Moorman, 24, of Sherwood, Arkansas went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2025. Josiah was born on June 20, 2000 in Memphis, Tennessee. Josiah had many medical needs from birth and God placed him in the care of C. J. & Cindy Moorman in 2004. Josiah’s three older brothers are Royce Johnathan, Chad Edwin, & Lance Christopher.
Josiah, affectionately known as “Jo Jo,” was a truly special child whose presence brought immense joy to everyone who knew him. Though his initial prognosis was that he would never walk or talk, Josiah defied expectations in his own remarkable way. While he was deaf and never spoke, he communicated through his vibrant expressions and loving spirit, making his personality shine in unforgettable ways.
Through love, care, and good nutrition, Jo Jo gradually learned to scoot across the floor—then, with time and determination, to walk and even run toward whatever captured his interest. Watching him grow and explore was a joy. Simply placing him on the floor and observing his expressive face could fill a room with laughter.
One of Josiah’s favorite discoveries was a pair of Crocs. Not just any Crocs—they had to be Red. He loved to hold them, twist them back and forth in his hands, and over the years, wore out several pairs. Later, he fell in love with swinging. His first experience on a swing, at Uncle Calvin’s home, revealed a deep and lasting joy.
Though his first swing set was quickly outgrown, Jo Jo’s enthusiasm never waned. At first, he scared everyone by letting go of the chains mid-swing—but after countless times, we came to realize that he knew exactly what he was doing. He went through three swing sets in total, spending hours in pure bliss where most others would last only minutes.
As he grew older, Josiah also discovered a love for horseback riding at Hearts & Hooves, where he showed an incredible sense of balance and looked every bit the little equestrian. In his later years, car rides became another favorite activity. He would climb in and, with quiet assurance, hand you the seat belt.
Josiah like his older brother Lance brought so many people into our lives…too many to mention here, but God knows, and we want you to know, you made such a difference in his and our lives. We are eternally grateful for all the help and support throughout the years.
Josiah is survived by his parents C J & Cindy Moorman; his brother Royce and Melissa and their children, Jakson, Mariana, Bryton and Cobin; his brother Chad and his children Emma, Langdon, Willow and Dawson; his Aunt Christine Murray of North Little Rock, his Uncle Glen & Linda Moorman of Harvey, La; his Uncle Calvin and Aunt Christine of Covington, La, His first cousins Breanna Whalen of Nashville, TN, Kati Welk, Birmingham, AL; Sarah Overmier and Ashley Keating of Covington, LA.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Cecil & Una Mae Moorman of Marrero, LA; Ed and DeAnn Murray, Uncle Greg Murray, and his older brother Lance Moorman, all of Sherwood, Arkansas.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, funeral service at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Sherwood, 701 Country Club Road, Sherwood, AR with a luncheon to follow for the family. Jo became a part of our family. I’ll never forget our first encounter. He was running, jumping and full of life. I took a personal approach to give Jo the love and attention needed for his care, but in return he taught me and my family a valuable lesson. What it means to be selfless and content with God and ourselves just the way He made us. I miss his presence, but we know he’s with the Creator spreading his joy just the way he shared it with us.
Sorry for your loss.Hope to call you soon and talk.Bob Carney
