Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One
Freddie Dean Riddick Ussery, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Greenbrier, Arkansas. Born on February 28, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Freddie was the third of seven children born to Dennis Aubrey Riddick and Rozelle Maxine Williams Riddick. She grew up in rural Crockett County, Tennessee, a place she always held dear.
Freddie graduated from Hamlett Robertson High School in Crockett Mills, Tennessee, in 1956. She later built a fulfilling career with the state of Mississippi, retiring from the Information Technology Department after years of dedicated service. Her professional life reflected her quiet strength and commitment to excellence.
She spent most of her adult life in Ridgeland, Mississippi—a community she loved deeply. There, she found joy in her home, her work, and especially her friends and church family at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. A devoted Christian woman, Freddie lived her faith daily and was known for praying often for others.
Freddie was also a gifted yet humble artist who enjoyed drawing and painting images that touched her heart. Her love for animals was evident throughout her life; she doted on many beloved pets over the years, especially her cherished dog BeeJay.
Those who knew Freddie will remember her radiant smile and the sparkle in her eyes when she shared one of her favorite stories—how Elvis Presley kissed her when he took her to a movie in Memphis one night. He had rented the whole movie theater for her and some friends. It was a memory she delighted in retelling and one that captured the charm and warmth that defined her spirit.
Freddie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sam Ussery; her son Daron Juan Greenway; grandchild Ashley Greenway; parents Dennis Aubrey Riddick and Rozelle Maxine Williams Riddick; and siblings June Rose Riddick Greenway, Robert Max Riddick Sr., Teddy Gene Riddick, Dennis Wayne Riddick, and Richard Doyle Riddick.
She is lovingly remembered by her granddaughter Amber Montgomery and Amber’s husband Matt Montgomery; great-grandchildren Lily, Bradley, Christian, and Caroline; sister Peggy Gail Riddick Sheffer; and many nieces and nephews scattered across the United States.
Freddie Dean Ussery leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, creativity, and love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and cherished her.

My dad loved his sister, and so did I. He would always make sure to visit her on his trips down south. She would sometimes send things back to Montana with him for us, knicks knacks and such. I do remember staying at her place in Ridgeland a few times after Sam had passed. I remember the water, her tidy condo with a pool, and I think there was a little dog. It was a peaceful place. Now she is living ii up with Dad and our Heavenly Father and so many others. See you soon, Aunt Freddie!
