Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One
Gary Helms, 68, of Little Rock, passed away on Nov. 12, with his loving brother, Randy, by his side. He was born in Oakland, Calif., to Richard and Clarene Helms, who preceded him in death.
Gary graduated from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville with dual bachelor’s degrees in sociology and psychology, earning high honors in both fields. His academic excellence also earned him membership in Alpha Chi, a national honor society. His career included many years with RadioShack in Little Rock, as well as computer equipment sales in Dallas. Later in life, he worked at the City of Lewisville Senior Center in Texas, where he found fulfillment teaching seniors how to stay connected with technology.
After retiring, Gary and his wife of 31 years, Debbie, returned to Little Rock to be closer to family.
Gary was known for his sharp mind, unyielding curiosity and love of learning. He enjoyed reading, spending time on his computer, traveling and especially cruising with family and friends. Cruise trivia nights were a favorite, and he rarely left a game without a win. A foodie at heart, he was always trying something new, with Japanese and Mexican cuisine among his favorites.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Helms; brothers, Randy Helms and Rocky Helms; sister, Donna McMinn; and nieces, nephews and extended “framily” who loved him dearly.
