Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One
Doris Jean Smith of Jacksonville passed peacefully in her sleep on December 17, 2025. She was 85 years old.
Born on September 26, 1940 and the youngest of five children, Doris was full of life and possessed a smile that could brighten any room she entered. She had a gift for making people feel welcomed and loved. Family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent creating memories with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her laughter, warmth, and loving presence will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her.
She had a deep love for travel and adventure, especially trips to the beach, and she was always ready for a road trip with family or friends. Christmas was her favorite time of year—her home beautifully decorated, the kitchen filled with the sweet aroma of baked treats, and her heart full as she celebrated the season surrounded by loved ones.
Doris is survived by her three children: Wanda Lee (Charles) of Jacksonville; Joni Waltermyer (Buck) of Ball, Louisiana; and Charles “Chuck” Smith (Terrie) of Ball, Louisiana. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Chauncey Williams of Beaumont, Texas; Alena Edenfield of Ball, Louisiana; Damein Evans-Delrie of Sherwood; Susan Dubroc of Ball, Louisiana; Michael Brossett of Pineville, Louisiana; and Brittany Smith of Ball, Louisiana; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Stephanie Brossett; her brothers, Charles W. Smith, Jr. and Tommy Smith; her sisters, Barbara Reynolds and Charlene LaCroix; and her parents, Lena Smith and Charles W. Smith, Sr.
