Valerie Lochridge Baker, age 67, peacefully completed her earthly journey and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Conway, Arkansas.
Valerie was born on February 6, 1959, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, to William “Bill” Lochridge and Patricia Haynie. She was raised in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where she attended Jacksonville High School and graduated in 1977.
Valerie devoted 24 years of her professional life to the Arkansas Department of Human Services. Her work extended far beyond professional obligation; it was a true calling. She served with compassion and integrity, dedicating herself to advocating for and supporting vulnerable and marginalized communities. Valerie took great pride in her service and the meaningful impact she made in the lives of others.
From an early age, Valerie demonstrated a love for horses and spent much of her childhood riding and competing in barrel and pole racing. In 1971, she was honored as the Bayou Meto Rodeo Queen. She was also deeply musically gifted, finding joy and expression through playing the piano and singing, particularly within her church community.
Valerie is survived by her beloved children: Alexis Atkins of Jacksonville, Arkansas; Lance Baker of New York, New York; and Kristin Baker of Greenbrier, Arkansas. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Rochelle Payne of Columbus, Indiana; Emily Justice (Colton) of Vilonia, Arkansas; and Charlotte Russell of Greenbrier, Arkansas. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia Loomis and Bill Lochridge, and by her brothers, Lance Lochridge and Billy Lochridge.
Outside of her professional commitments, Valerie found joy in life’s simple pleasures—gardening, working outdoors, playing the piano, and spending meaningful time with her family. These moments brought her deep fulfillment and reflected her gentle, nurturing spirit.
Valerie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, and the legacy of love and service she leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life honoring Valerie’s life and legacy will be held at New Life Church in Conway, Arkansas, on March 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
