Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day.”

Edward E. States Jr., 86, of Sherwood passed away at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock on Saturday, May 23, 2026. He was born on March 3, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana and grew up in Malvern, Arkansas.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1958. “Bub”, as family and friends knew him, was a retired Navy Veteran of 20 years. Chief States served his country in the Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, Spain, Taiwan, Maine, and Florida. After his military retirement, he worked as manager of housekeeping at White County Hospital South in Searcy and the Doubletree Hotel in Little Rock.

In his spare time, he enjoyed rounds of golf, his favorite sport, loved the football, basketball, and baseball Razorbacks (WPS), and trips to the cabin on the “Little Red” River. He would sit for hours on the dock waiting for that “big” trout to hit his line.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie; his mother, Kathryn; and his brother, Michael.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kristi; daughter Keely; son Curt (Sherri); sister Leah (Steve), brother John (Marian); grandchildren Kayla, Corey (Makayla), Cody, Brittney, Ryan (Haley), and Alexis Jade; great-granddaughters Jada, Jaylee, Kingsley; great-grandson Titus; and a host of nieces and nephews all who loved him very much. His little dog, “Sugah Bear” will be missing her “best buddy.”

“Thank you, God, for letting us share life with this wonderful man. He will be loved and missed forever.”

To the man that served his country for 20 years. To the man who was like the brother I never had who could be hilarious and serious (sometimes at the same time). A man that you could count on for anything, rest in peace my dear friend.
