David Trent Woods, age 67, of Ward, Arkansas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 25, 2026. He was born on October 10, 1958, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late John Edward Woods and Wanda Marie Needham Woods.
David leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of more than 46 years, Susan Noel Sherman Woods of Ward, Arkansas; his two sons, David Aaron Woods of Dallas, Texas, and Ethan Christopher Woods (Emily) of Cabot, Arkansas; his treasured grandchildren, Emmett Christopher Woods and Riley Sue Woods; his siblings, Stephen Edward Woods (Pamela), Thomas Seth Woods (Dokagari), Bryan Austin Woods, Marcia Jane Strube (Doug), and Aimee Louise Hall; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and unwavering faith.
David was a graduate of Dallas Baptist University, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. He later received his Master of Music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. For more than 46 years, David faithfully served as a Southern Baptist minister of music and youth, dedicating his life to leading others into the presence of the Lord through worship and sharing the hope of the Gospel. His ministry was more than a vocation—it was his calling.
Known for his gentle spirit and genuine heart, David was a true gentleman who never met a stranger. His warm smile, encouraging words, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Above all else, David was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud “Pop” who cherished every moment spent with his family.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at New Life Church Cabot, 3400 West Main Street, Cabot, Arkansas 72023. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Susa, we are so very sorry for your sudden unexpected loss of your dear David. You & your sons & grands will be in our thoughts & prayers in the times ahead. We are all blessed that we have the assurance that David is now at home for forever with Jesus, his Lord & Savior. What a comfort to have that blessing of God’s promise to us left behind here as you move on forward in this life only with David in your heart & mind. One day you will see him again. Dear Susan, Ethan, Aaron and family, our hearts are full of sadness for all of you. We loved our dear friend, David, and will cherish the memories of all our times together whether at church, small group or just out as friends. He was our brother in Christ and a joy in our lives. Bro. David was my choir director at First Baptist church in Cherokee Village for many years. He was a funny guy who always had us laughing. He was always very kind and considerate to me . I know he will be missed by many.

David was my friend. We served together on staff in El Dorado, Arkansas. David was honest and pure in heart. His desire was to see people encounter God in a real personal way each week. He loved his family so much and so proud of his boys. We had some deep talks about life and church ministry and the challenges in ministry. David always wanted to just do ministry to lead people to Jesus. David was one of a kind and will be missed dearly. My condolences to Susan, Ethan, and Aaron. Your Dad meant so much to me. I am so sorry for your loss. David was the first friend I made after moving to Bolivar my sophomore year. I was so blessed having David as my friend. He always had encouraging words and welcoming me into our little circle of friends. We were in band together, glee club, Singing 16 and jazz band. We even worked at the same pizza restaurant together. It seemed at times we were joined at the hip. I regret we didn’t keep in touch more. I was really looking forward to seeing him again at our 50th reunion. My heart is broken. He will be missed. David, go rest high on that mountain. I can only imagine how the angels will weep while singing praising God when they hear you play the trumpet! I know you will be on the front line when the trumpets sound announcing our Lord’s return.
Susan and family: I just heard of David’s passing. I am so sorry for your loss. In the time I knew David here in Tyler, I knew him to be pure in heart and sincere in all that he did. I counted him as a true friend for the few years you guys were here.
