James “Jim” Turner, 79, of Sherwood passed away on May 31, 2026. He was reunited with the love of his life, Lena.
Jim was born in McCullough, Alabama to James Anderson Turner and Mary Turner on February 13, 1947. He was the fifth of five children. He grew up farming right alongside his family and was driving a tractor by an early age.
After graduating Blacksher High School in Uriah, Alabama, Jim was drafted into the United States Airforce. After completing training, he was sent to Vietnam. Once he completed his tour, he was stationed at St Andrews Air Force Base where he met his love, Lena Palmer. They moved to New Orleans where he started his career with the Union Pacific Railroad. This provided the opportunity to move many places then settled in Jacksonville, AR since 1981 where they raised their family.
After his retirement Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and loved working to make his yard beautiful. He was a very generous man and donated to many organizations each month.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lena Turner, his parents James and Mary Morris Turner, one brother Andrew Turner, and two sisters, Hazel Baggett and Evelyn Daniels and one great-grandson Cole Leonard.
He is survived by daughter Lorie Davis (Sam), son Bryan Turner (Holly), four grandchildren, Heath Davis (Jaylyn), Samantha Leonard (Alex), Eli Turner and Leo Turner and one great-granddaughter Tatum Leonard and one sister, Earline Brooks (Jessie).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Willow Grove of Sherwood for the wonderful care they provided when Jim needed it the most.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Willow Grove of Sherwood (9880 Brockington Rd, Sherwood, AR 72120)
