Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

James Lynn Kent, Sr. August 9, 1942 – July 10, 2026

With profound sadness and heartfelt love, we announce the passing of James “Jimmy” Lynn Kent, Sr., a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all.

Jimmy was born on August 9, 1942, to J.V. Kent and Mildred Butler. He lived a life centered on faith, family, and kindness.

For 64½ wonderful years, he was the beloved husband of Janice Kent. Together they built a loving family and shared a lifetime of adventures, cherished memories, and unwavering love.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Janice; his son, James Lynn Kent, Jr. (Janet), his daughter, Jeana Hays (John), his grandchildren, Dustin Kent (Rebecca), Lauren Hess (Kyle), Hannah Hooks (Joey), and Jason Larson (Lyric).  His great-grandchildren, Eli, Emily, & Luke Kent, Payton Kent, Asher Hess, Rhylee Hess, and Corbyn Larson. 1 sister Darlene Gonzales, 2 brothers John Kent and Freddy Butler, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jimmy truly never met a stranger. His warm smile, kind spirit, and welcoming personality made everyone feel like family. Whether he was sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or simply enjoying a conversation, he had a remarkable way of making others feel valued and loved.

He found peace and happiness in God’s creation and especially enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends.

Above all else, Jimmy loved the Lord. His faith guided every aspect of his life, and he lived as an example of compassion, humility, and unwavering love.

We find comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of his Savior—free from pain and restored in perfect peace. The love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Jimmy will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. His legacy lives on through his family and through the countless lives he touched with his gentle heart, steadfast faith, and unconditional love.

The family wishes to express its sincerest thanks to Gentiva Hospice Care.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
