On Friday evening, July 10, 2026, Marjorie Mary McConkey passed away at home, surrounded by family and love. She was born in Huntington Station, Long Island on May 30, 1947.
Margie loved spending time with her family and friends, and celebrating all holidays with all of us together. She would call us at midnight to sing Happy Birthday to each of us. She was an animal lover her entire life, and although she mostly had dogs, she leaves her cat Dobi with us.
She loved reading, dancing, gardening, cooking huge meals, watching TV, and traveling across the country. Margie earned her Business Management degree at Ouachita Votech in Malvern, Arkansas. Margie and her husband Bill co-owned B&M Truck Escort, a nationwide pilot car service, for almost 30 years. During the summers, she would take her kids, Eddie and Mary, on trips all over the US, so we could see the country together. Margie is most loved and will forever be missed.
Margie is preceded in death by her son Edward James Sweet; father Edward Jelich; mother Mary Jelich (Lelko); husband William Edward McConkey; and brother Robert Jelich.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Kathryn Haseltine-McConkey of North Little Rock, AR; son-in-law Barakat Julani of North Little Rock; adopted daughter April Ollison; stepson Gregory McConkey of Oregon; grandchildren Micah and Desiree McConkey of Hot Springs, Aubrey Jackson of North Little Rock, Maleek Simmons of Malvern, Mellissa Ellis of North Little Rock, and numerous extended grandchildren in Sacramento and Oregon; great-grandchildren Kennedi Broughton-McConkey, Alayna McConkey, Mina McConkey all of Hot Springs, and numerous extended great-grandchildren in Sacramento and Oregon; her best friends Patricia Harris, Jan Capossela, Terry Lungsford, Cindy Siegrist, Melvin Ollison, and Bitt Jenkins.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their dedication and the amazing care they provided Margie during her last month.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Margie’s name.
