Ouida Labon Ingram Peters passed away on July 9, 2026 at home In North Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 91, having lived a long life of love and faith.
Born on December 7, 1934 in the Mississippi delta to parents, James and Henrilu Ingram, Ouida moved with her family to Texarkana, Arkansas as a teenager. It was there that she met and married George Peters, beginning a 72 year journey of love and dedication.
Ouida’s college career was happily interrupted by five children and several moves, but when her children were grown, she went back to Ouachita Baptist University as a grandmother to finish her degree in Biblical Studies. Always a teacher at heart, she spent her life teaching her children; teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and leading Women On Mission groups in her church. She even did some substitute teaching in public schools and was active for some years in the Little Rock Musical Coterie.
Proud of her Mississippi roots, she loved to tell stories of growing up in the delta, hard times and good times, picking cotton, cracking open a ripe watermelon, and taking care of younger sisters. She loved family reunions, holidays with children and grandchildren, family camp trips to the lake, and special time with her sisters. She also loved being serenaded by her husband, George, on the piano.
Ouida was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Jamie Lou Harper Cantrell, and her sister, Betty Tucker. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, George Peters, and a large loving family; son, George Peters, Jr. and wife Rhonda; daughters Alice Peters, Carla Smith, Eva Bakalekos and husband, James; sisters, Sherry Grant and Claire Gatling. She also loved and took great pride in her 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
Family and friends grieve her loss, and will miss her bright smile and loving heart, but know that her faith will guide her home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 from 10:00-11:00am in the chapel at A Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville. Graveside service will follow at 12:00pm at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas.
