Philip Lynn DeVice went to be with the Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 2, 2026. He was born on January 20, 1945, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Theodore Charles DeVice Sr. and Reba Madge Matheny DeVice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley DeVice, and brother, Theodore DeVice, Jr.
Phil is survived by his daughters, Shelly Boyett and Cindy (Kevin) Ambeau. He was a loving grandfather to Lauren (Tucker) Leech, Laci (Tyler) Tarrant, Lake (Alexis) Boyett, and Jake (Tristan) Ambeau. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren, Waylon Leech, Bayler Tarrant, Camryn Boyett, Braidy Tarrant, Walker Leech, Marlee Skaggs, Wynnie Leech, and Baby Ambeau on the way.
Phil dedicated many years of service to the Arkansas Highway Department, where he retired as an auditor. He was known for his sharp mind, attention to detail, and remarkable skill with computers and technology. His grandchildren lovingly called him a “genius,” a title that always brought a smile to his face and one he quietly appreciated, while his wife, Shirley, would quietly roll her eyes.
Phil had a passion for cars and could often be found working on one in the garage, admiring a beautifully restored vehicle, or enjoying a day at a car show or the races. He was a gifted woodworker. His shop was one of his favorite places to be, where he spent countless hours building, creating, and tinkering. With patience and skill, Phil handcrafted wooden cars that became treasured keepsakes for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Phil was also a funny man who was always cracking jokes and making everyone around him laugh. Whether it was a quick-witted comment, playful teasing, or simply joking around with family, he had a special way of bringing joy to every room. He dearly loved his cats and dogs, and many will fondly remember him with his signature pipe never far from reach.
More than the things he built, Phil leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, craftsmanship, and memories that will be treasured by all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by everyone fortunate enough to have known him. While his family grieves his absence, they find great comfort and peace in knowing that Phil is once again reunited in Heaven with the love of his life, his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley. They rejoice in the promise that the two are together again, celebrating a reunion that has been long-awaited.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 1 p.m., with the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot, Arkansas.
