Gerry Scott Ward was born to the late Ernestine Byrd and Jimmie Ward on December 1, 1962 in Helena, AR. He departed life August 8, 2026.
He accepted Christ at a young age. He was a proud member of the Central High School Class of 1981 in Helena, AR. Upon graduation he entered Superior Trucking school in TX where he received his CDL.
He had a way of leaving his self-impression. His skills and knowledge spanned a variety of professions, including retail, manufacturing, carpentry, and delivery work where he was last employed with Goodwill Industries. Many people will remember him not only for what he knew, but for the wisdom and life lessons he freely shared. He was well known for being a dedicated and loyal school crossing guard off Green Mountain Drive. January 2020, he started serving with Adopt a Block which led him to become a member of New Life Church in July 2020 where he continued to volunteer and serve. March 2025 he became a Certified Nursing Assistant.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ernestine Byrd Steel, maternal grandparents, Beatrice & Henry Byrd, father, Jimmie Ward, paternal grandparents, Rolena and Jimmie Ward, Sr, aunt: Mattie Beasley, uncles: Melvin and Henry Byrd, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his sisters Connie Sample Watson of Maumelle, AR, Jackalin (Steven) Farrior of Jacksonville, AR, Donna and Diane Ward of Little Rock, AR, brothers: Jimmie, Roger, Victor, Nicholas Ward. Aunts: Matilda Jefferson and Bertha Franklin of Little Rock, AR. Nieces and nephew, Shalonda (Tony) Fitzgerald Travis, Carla Watson, Ariel Farrior, and Steven D Farrior, great-nieces, Kaylan Morrow & Jordyn Travis, and a host of other family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to the Ward family Mr Gary what I called him was a joy to talk to I met him about 12 years ago when I was traveling to Littlerock I had walked my granddaughter to bus stop one morning from then on we became great friends either he would check on me or I would check on him we would talk for hours about everything he was a kind man never forgot a birthday for my grandkids or my daughter as well as mines we would always tell him you don’t have to give us anything but he did anyway so I would always return the favor on sly by bringing him tamales from Crossett and chowchow I had a lot of fun with him he loved working as a crossing guard he wanted to keep the children safe he will truly be missed by all. Rest in peace Mr Gary 🙏🏾
