John C. “Big John” Rutherford

February 5, 1955 – August 8, 2026

John C. Rutherford, affectionately known as “Big John,” passed away at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, community service, faith, and countless friendships.

Born on February 5, 1955, John was the son of Pearly Mae Kimbrell and Everett C. “Slim” Kimbrell, Jr. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose larger-than-life personality touched the lives of many.

John was the owner and operator of Big John’s Shuttle Bus, a business that reflected his love of people and his commitment to serving others. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service with Riceland and 20 years with the City of Stuttgart. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of coworkers and community members alike through his strong work ethic, dependability, and friendly nature. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, John valued his faith and the fellowship he found within his church family.

A proud member of the Stuttgart Jaycees from 1978 to 1995, John was deeply involved in community activities. He especially enjoyed working at the Jaycees’ haunted houses and helping with the annual Fourth of July fireworks celebrations. These events brought him great joy and allowed him to form lifelong friendships while giving back to the community he loved.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Pearly Mae Kimbrell, and his little brother, Clifford Kimbrell.

He is survived by his daughter, Fallon Pagan of Conway, Arkansas; his father, Everett “Slim” Kimbrell of Stuttgart, Arkansas; his sister, Gwen (Roger, Jr.) Strabala of Loganville, Georgia; and his bonus daughter, Brandy (Mat) Combs of Vilonia, Arkansas.

John also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren, Madyson Cowling of Conway, Arkansas; Braydon Cowling of Monticello, Arkansas; and Jace Pagan of Conway, Arkansas, as well as a bonus grandson, Corbin McManus of Vilonia, Arkansas, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

In addition to his immediate family, John is survived by a host of nephews and a niece, his cherished cruise family, and lifelong friends, Danny Coleman of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Richelle Danley (Donna) of Conway, Arkansas, whose friendship and companionship meant so much to him throughout the years.

Known for his generous heart and willingness to help others, John never met a stranger. Whether through his work, his church, his Jaycee service, Aikido class or simply his everyday interactions, he made a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

His memory will live on through the many lives he touched and the love he shared with family and friends.
