Marion Jean “BJ” Washburne Rawn departed this life peacefully in her home on July 10, 2026. She was born on June 27, 1938, in Oak Park, Illinois to Maurice Franklin Washburne and Mary Elizabeth Hafner Washburne. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Maurice “Mike” Washburne and Mary Elizabeth Shane.
Her accomplishments were many and among her favorite highlights were as a member of the Young Democrats and later as Arkansas Democratic Women of the Year. She was passionate about her politics and worked tirelessly on numerous campaigns. She served as a Girl Scout leader and as a Mount St Mary’s Rockettes sponsor for many years. She would say her finest accomplishment is she raised two very young girls as a young single parent for many years before remarrying. Working tirelessly to ensure her girls always had what they needed, she was present at every game, event, and supportive of whatever they chose to do. Marion also fought hard for injustice towards others and animals and accepted everyone. She loved music and loved dancing. She studied opera, sang with bands, and later in the church choir. She was outgoing, witty, and a bright light in this world. Her quick wit and compassion will be missed.
She is survived by her long-time love of 37 yrs Richard Quast, her daughters Debbie Rawn, Lisa Rawn, Paula Keys and Lori Clark, her sister-in-law Donna Washburne and her brother-in-law Charles Shane and a deeply loved host of nieces, nephews, and their children.
We would like to thank Kadejia White and Rose Dickey from Arkansas Hospice for their excellent compassionate care and our many family and friends who supported her and us during this time.
Please join us for a celebration of her life at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church 12415 Cantrell Road Little Rock, Arkansas on Thursday, August 20th at 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arkansas Food Bank, Pulaski County Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
