Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Amanda Joyce Chason was born on November 10, 1952, in Gravel Ridge, Arkansas, to her late parents, Una Dell Jackson and Owen Phillips. From the beginning, she was surrounded by family, and those connections remained the greatest treasures of her life.

A proud Sylvan Hills High School graduate, Amanda was a feature majorette in the marching band and frequently twirled fire. She also participated in numerous beauty contests.

After graduation, she continued her education at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Following college, Amanda lived in Memphis, where she was employed as manager of The Back Door. This clothing store styled many of the best dressed women in Memphis including some of Elvis’ entourage.

Amanda married Steve D. Chason, DDS in 1982, beginning a beautiful 44-year journey together. They made their home in Augusta, Arkansas where Amanda was so much more than a woman behind the scenes. She was the heart, strength, and constant support of their life together. She gave so much of herself to the people and the community she loved and never asked for recognition in return.

In 2004, Amanda and Steve were honored with a Distinguished Service Award by the Arkansas Art Educators for their contribution to the arts and local schools. This reflects the love and dedication they shared for art and children.

Amanda had an adventurous spirit and a love for seeing the world. She traveled extensively, but the Big Island of Hawaii held a special place in her heart.

Amanda leaves behind a large extended family that loved her deeply, including numerous cousins who shared a lifetime of memories with her. Her legacy will be through the love she gave, the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.

The family is forever grateful to Lauren Butler for the love, devotion and compassionate care she gave Amanda and Elite Hospice for their support during her final journey.

Amanda left her earthly vessel on September 10, 2026, with those she loved best at her side.

Amanda’s memory will live in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known her. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you consider donating in her memory to your local animal shelter or the art department of your local school.

A celebration of life for Amanda Chason will be held September 25, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Augusta, Arkansas. Visitation is from 10:00am until the Memorial Service begins at 11:00am.
