Henry “Glenn” McCoy, Sr. of Benton, Arkansas, left his earthly home on September 19, 2026 while at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
His Heavenly Father called him home, and what a wonderful reunion.
Glenn was born September 7, 1952 in Birta, Arkansas to the late Charles Henry and Anna Chloe McCoy. He was the youngest of nine children. Glenn always joked that his parents kept having children until they got the BEST one.
Glenn leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Gayle McCoy of Benton, Arkansas; one daughter Laurie Winterton of Tucson, Arizona; and one son Henry Glenn McCoy II of Alexander, Arkansas. He has 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Most of them live out of state, not something he loved, but learned to live with.
After high school from Ola High School. Glenn joined the Army National Guard and served six years.
He was all about whatever his kids were doing, whether it was cheerleading, softball, pageants for his daughter; and baseball, basketball, or cross country for his son. He never missed a game, a dance recital, a cross country race, a baseball game or a basketball game. Glenn also helped other boys as he coached baseball at Salem Baseball Park for 7-8 years. He even had a batting cage in his backyard and would have the team over before games to warm up.
“Santa” was his name at the Ola Christmas Reunion, where, of course he handed out gifts.
Glenn was in the Sheet Metal Local #249 where he completed his 4 year apprenticeship. First working at McCroskey Sheet Metal in North Little Rock, Arkansas as a welder. Once McCroskey closed, he went to work for the AHTD, now ARDOT. Where he retired after 31 years. He was in charge of keeping the patrol men with all the things that they needed to do their jobs. But, he also worked on the portable weigh scales and in the weigh station plus putting emblems on the vehicles. Eventually, he worked his way into being the Armorer for the Arkansas Highway Police Department. His expert shooting skills helped teach others gun safety, cleaning of the guns, and shooting skills.
He was a man of God and attended Geyer Spring First Baptist Church for 24 years. Where he then was asked to be on the Security Team for the people of the church. He not only watched while he was at church, but, also watched out for people that looked in distress. He absolutely loved this ministry and was totally devoted to it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry McCoy and Anna Chloe McCoy; and a daughter Helen Ann McCoy, also two brothers Billy C. McCoy, Jimmy C. McCoy, two sisters Mary E. Leach and Nancy Porter, and other close relatives all within the past few years.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Geyer Springs First Baptist Church.
