In Loving Memory of Michael Albert Burns

Michael Albert Burns, age 63, passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, Julie Burns (Russell), family, friends, and the extraordinary caregivers who stood faithfully by his side and cared for him as one of their own.

Michael was born on September 19, 1962, to Richard Albert Burns and Emma Lee Burns (Decker). To all who knew him, Michael was a unique, loving, and caring individual who left a lasting impression on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Throughout his life, Michael worked in many different fields, but two chapters of his career held a special place in his heart. His military service as a helicopter pilot and mechanic was a source of great pride, as was his later career as a surgical assistant. Both careers reflected his dedication, skill, and desire to serve others.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Albert Burns and Emma Lee Burns, his beloved grandson, Kingston Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Burns; his daughters, Ashley Renee Burns Wilson and Meredythe Ellen Burns Harper (DA); his grandchildren, Eliza and Malcolm Grey Harper; his brothers, Edward Burns (wife Bonnie Burns) and Robert Burns (wife Anne Farmer); and his extended family and many friends who will forever cherish his memory. He also leaves behind two very special companions, his beloved dogs, Zeus and Zahara, who brought him great comfort and companionship.

Michael’s remains were cremated at Natural State Crematorium in Little Rock, Arkansas, and will remain with his loving wife, Julie.

In keeping with Michael’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, family and close friends will gather in the coming weeks to remember his life, share stories, and celebrate the memories he left behind. Those invited will be notified in advance.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Michael’s memory consider making a charitable donation to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in his name.

Michael will be remembered for his kindness, his individuality, his caring heart, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. Though he is no longer with us, the love and memories he gave to his family and friends will remain forever.
