In Loving Memory of Michelle Ramona Vasquez
Michelle Ramona [Roark] Vasquez, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the age of 59. She was born on March 28, 1967, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, to James Michael Roark and Barbara Jean [St Clair] Roark.
Michelle spent her early years in North Little Rock before moving with her family to Midland and later to Houston, Texas. After moving to Houston at the age of 18 and later becoming a mother to her beloved son, Matthew Nevada Ross, she returned to Lubbock, Texas, to be near her parents.
One of the most meaningful chapters of Michelle’s life began in the summer of 1993, when she met Ernesto “Ernie” Vasquez at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her parents “Mike” and Barbara apparently recognized a good match when they saw one and was happy to lend a hand. Mike would invite Ernie to join the family for a meal after the meetings and even made sure the two sat next to each other at the table. Ernie was looking for a spiritually capable wife, and before long, the friendship blossomed into love. Michelle and Ernie were married on December 18, 1993, beginning a marriage filled with love, companionship, and treasured memories.
Four years later, Michelle and Ernie moved to Jacksonville following her parents’ move to Arkansas. Together, they built a life centered on the things they loved most: camping, playing games, and spending time with friends and family. Michelle had a special love for nature and a genuine concern for others. She cherished her friendships and the people in her life, making the relationships she shared meaningful. Her kindness and care for others left a lasting impression on those who knew her.
Michelle’s faith was an important part of who she was. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, alongside her lifelong friend “Cha Cha” on July 4, 1981, beginning a lifelong spiritual journey. The Bible’s promise of a future without suffering and of everlasting life in Paradise was a precious hope. Although her family and friends deeply feel her absence, they find comfort in the hope Jehovah provides and eagerly look forward to the day when they will see Michelle again.
Above all, Michelle was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. To Ernie, she was more than his wife, she was his best friend. Their love and companionship were among the most treasured parts of his life, and her absence leaves an immeasurable space in his heart.
Michelle will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ernesto “Ernie” Vasquez; her son, Matthew Nevada Ross; her grandchildren, Payton, Parker and Brennan; her siblings, Ron, Renee, Morgan, Mark, and Misty; and the many friends and loved ones whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Michael Roark and Barbara Jean Roark.
Though Michelle’s family and friends must now carry on without her loving presence, they can hold close the memories they made together, the love she shared, and the hope of a joyful reunion in the promised Paradise. Michelle will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
