Sammie Lee Wheat went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning October 11, 2026. She was born in Sheridan, Arkansas on March 3, 1941 to Bill and Maylee Young. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ann Wheat. Survivors are her husband Sid Wheat, her sister Pat (William) Lasage of Alexander, her son Chad (Marion) Caple of Benton, her son Shane (Melissa) Caple of Benton, her stepson, Apple Kahler of Sherwood, and her stepdaughter, Toni Locke, of Little Rock. She had six grandchildren: Robert Lane of Conroe, Texas; Russell Lane of Weatherford, Texas; Amber Kahler of Sherwood; Parker Betts of Benton; Clayton Cable of Hot Springs; Emily Gray of Maumelle; and four great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Benton High School, she worked as manager of the Lawton Airport in Oklahoma.  The job that brought her the most joy was with Boeing Aircraft, where she worked on the Saturn/Apollo space craft project. In 1971 She received a certificate and a medallion made from medal taken from the space craft commemorating the first lunar landing on July 20, 1969. She retired from State Farm Insurance and was currently a home maker. She was a member of CenterPoint Church in Benton, and a member in long standing with the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Christian Motorcycle Association’s prison ministry team. She was a licensed minister and enjoyed visiting people in the Saline County Jail. She rode her bike in all but four of these United States and had ridden in nine foreign countries and had been on nine foreign missionary trips. She was in the truest sense an evangelist/biker.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on October 24, 2026 at CenterPoint church, 20383 Interstate 30, Benton, Arkansas. Pastor Pat DeSort officiating. Sammie’s wishes were to be cremated and to be buried between her mom and dad in Grape Vine, Arkansas.
